The Living Patio

Blue Star Creeper ground cover creates a checker board pattern that adds a bit of whimsy to the garden

This is one of my favorite spots in the my garden. I re-used inexpensive 12″x12″ cement stepping stones, tossed to the curbside by a neighbor, to create a 14′x14′ patio on the cheap.

Isotoma Fluviatilis (Blue Star Creeper) in between the stones was added to create an instant living patio.

A complete irrigation system was installed before setting the stones — a must to keep the patio alive and make it easy to maintain. The same idea can be used with flagstone or recycled cement.
